I have read John’s book with great interest and have had a lot of chuckles. I can visualise Alex at her kitchen table control post discussing details with her trainers.

I never realised how complicated the whole business is but John’s explanations have unravelled the complexities.

Like all outdoor sporting activities the excuses from the trainers and jockeys are like the Scottish Ghyllies when no salmon are caught. Sun too bright, river too high or too low. Wrong time of day. Spooked by otters. Wrong fly, too small, too big, wrong colour (salmon are colour blind). Water temp too high, too low etc.

I thoroughly enjoyed it as there is something for everyone ie John’s holiday travels, course hospitality, breeding and details of the wonders of Vet fees and so much more.
